The 4th Scrapbook Challenge with my pal Brooke

It was a fun challenge, again. I find all challenges fun, more or less LOL.
Buttons, tags, stamps, ribbon and doilie and the sketch below.
She totally nailed it.
I think this one is a favorite.
Love the photo of her son and hubby.
My "doilie" was a cool thing I had from pink paislee.
Brooke sent Today at 9:29 AM
I love Thickers. The loves part of my title are foam thickers.
Brooke sent Today at 9:29 AM
My tag is the arrow patterned paper....cut it up and used it to layer

My challenge from Brooke gave me a 2 spread - which I only did one
and thought what the heck - lets do a 2 page.
See that photo with my big mouth open - only a long lost
cousin I haven't seen in 40 years took it.
Love that nothing changed since we were kidlets.

My challenge from Brooke was the sketch below and
patterned paper only, 6 buttons, 6 eyelets, ACK!!! 3 stamps different mediums
WHICH IS TOTALLY OVERLOOKED THAT - SO FAIL!
and handmade flowers.
Also FAIL on eyelets - I had NOT A ONE - so I used whatever
brads I had remaining - which wasn't many.
I think I had 7 and they were all different - so I used them anyway
and they totally worked.
I was so worried about brad and eyelets forgot about stamps.
Sigh.

You will also see this page in my new 6x8 album that you can
read about here !! It turned out so pretty I think.
Can't go wrong with oxides and stamps.

Tag booklet complete - the backside

I finished this baby fast.
You can see the start and additions of the booklete here and here.
I was making the tags and the majority are mixed media
and therefore, a lot of bleeding going on the backside.
Therefore, a solution was required more or less.
I was still out on the fence because mixed media is supposed
to messy, however.
There's messy cool and messy messy.
So my pals Holli and Brooke convinced me that maybe the
backside needed some cover.
(as if a normal scrapper couldn't figure that one out)
LOL.
I could've covered with mixed media and/or plain ole
pattern paper.
Where's the fun in that.
So....I decided that embellishing would be
great fun and it was.

Not necessarily in any particular order because blogger
is a pain in the ass about that.
Heaven forbid they actually upload in the order
I went to great pains to do.
But I digress.....It turned out to be a lot of fun
and I did all the pages in one night
and doesn't that prove the fun.

Using a bit of this and that from PebblesWoodland Forest.
That paper bad is soooo cool and I felt it
complimented the mixed media I was using on
the tags.

Got to use a lot of stash.

I think the deer is Bo Bunny but I can't swear to it.
I have a bad habit of tossing packages and
tossing everything into one tub.
Sadly, my head is like I can remember it and
my memory is like - yeah no.

It was a great play and I got brave and started
splatting some mists and nuvo around.
I love that lady - it's TH - a stamp and die.

OOOOO and I love those fauna and flowers
and decided that the bold colors
would be rather pretty.
I love that sentiment.

Love the Christmas cheer and I think I
need to add a few splats as I look
at this photo.

I got to use some washi tape.
I have issues with using it - it just doesn't look right
when I plop it down.
This actually worked out.

Love my tag booklet and I'll be making a few more.
For some reason I flung out a lot of creativity
that I would normally stifle on other projects
because I have a set thing in my head
that screams you can't do that.
Well I did it.
And I'm gonna do it again.

Happy New Year!

Back to preschool

Which is just as important but way more fun.
I find I'm using tags a lot
especially in little clusters.
I like that.
 Another little cluster with some
EK Success words.
Love those.
And this 'wise ole owl' seems to be excited.
I have had this 12x12 die cut in my paper box
FOREVER.
Way before the cameos came on the scene.
Finally thought to use it but I have
no clue who the mfg.
At first I thought black cardstock and it popped
but it seemed a bit too much.
Balanced it with some black and dots at the top and bottom.
I think this is kinda fun and works
for the tykes.

Sam and Lou hanging out.

I think I'll stop here.....

It all started innocently enough with watercolors.
 And splatters.
Then along came some stamps and gesso
adding more and more layers.
And another tag bites the dust - only 3 remaining.
And wa-la the background which came together nicely
as I didn't have a plan or picture in mind.
So I started out with the photo over to the right on the smaller area.
And nothing worked.
It looked well.... stupid.
Therefore, I shifted everything around and added a few more touches.
And does't that tag rock or what.
Love the clusters and layers going on.
Lots more layers.
And then the hunt for the photo - I actually had 2 other photos in mind,
but they really didn't work with
A. the tag
and,
B. the design
I also felt black and white worked better.
And in this design.

Shimelle's line, Studio Calico and my tag.
And I think I'll stop here.

File folder tag

As mentioned in yesterday's post, I didn't have enough
embellishments laying around so I made more.
One or two were file folders.
I fell in love with the office supply embellishments.
And I used them. ALOT.
Then not so much.
Well they're baaaaaccckk at least for a bit.
Above is a photo of some of the items I'll be putting on the file folder
and below - magic as it all comes together because
I'm focused that way.
And you'll be seeing the rest sooner or later.
Get ready.
What better than a file folder for back to school.
If you'll notice I removed the lame butterfly because these
boys needed manly stars on their page.
That were also diecut in copious amounts.
Love the paper from Studio Calico - its about getting up and
doing something amazing today.
I hope they do it every day.

Printed a tri-photo photo

And say that 3 times fast.
Instagram photo.
In the print section in Aperture, there is a choice to do 3 photos
in sequence that I thought was cool.
It kind of gives you a taste of the photos or in my case
actually focuses on the best part of the photo.
I printed it on 8.5x11 photo paper and trimmed the sides evenly
since one was wonkier than the other.

Yes, Nick I used Aperture because Lightroom is making me crazy.

I wanted a page that was a bit different than what I posted on my blog
earlier on boondockin' and use some of the landscape
photos that I take in abundance but don't scrap much.
Why? I don't know.

If you've never been to the Great Smokey Mtns - you really need to
put it on your to do list.

October Afternoon is the background paper from my Studio Calico kit
as well as that tree trunk bole. I'm kinda proud how I worked that in.
Scraps of simple stories made it in there.
The alpha is deja view with some quickutz going on.
I used a background stamp that came out kindof lame and
covered most up.
And I made that tag. I KNOW.
It's the little things.

AND WEDNESDAY IS THE BIG DAY - I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED.

Remember that post I teased

about here? Well its challenge time at Off the Rails
Scrapbooking and the challenge is create your own embellishment.
TADA for one in a row when I was actually ahead of the curve for a change. The tag has some gesso going on along with some mists and alcohol inks.
I chose some Paper Studio pattern paper because I just love the greenish/blue stripes.
It makes the best girlie girl page ever. I took my honeycomb stencil and modeling past and made some honeycombs on the page.

Does the texture rock or what.
I grabbed my watercolors and just sloshed some paints over the honeycombs.

Watercolors are so forgiving and you don't have to be a Rembrandt to use it.

I picked up some kraft doilies. Kraft is another favorite with bluish/green and it accented the tag nicely as I used it for a mat. A B&W photo was perfect for all the elements. Found a bag of hearts I got carried away punching and tossed them on the page. I don't remember the alphas - but they are soooooo cool and fun and blingy.

As an aside, my kidlets always called their toes piggies or pigs until about kindergarten. I am carrying on tradition with grands.

Head on over to Off the Rails Scrapbooking and check out the design teams creations. Also play along and hopefully win a lovely prize. Join the facebook page and post your page!
Can't wait to see!

When you're mojo up and leaves

What's a scrapper to do.
This happened for several days. Ohhhhh....
I'm baaaackkk!
SORTOF.
We'll see what happens tomorrow.
Had a breakthru today and sometimes when the mojo
packs its bags and heads out I
haunt the galleries, videos and old mags that I still have
and then when that doesn't work....
I go back to the basics.
There's nothing snappy about this page except that its done.
It looks great.
Its a bit different for a baby page.
Working with some instagram photos - I printed them 4x4 size.
Dug into Studio Calico for the majority of embellies
except for the bottle cap I purchased at a flea market and I'm
running out now. Have to hunt for more.
Little bit of washi and those adorable saying strips.
The check is an aside because everyone in the Murphy family
loves diners. Well who doesn't really.
So little Sam is grandbaby #9.

A couple of project teases going on...

Just to keep things interesting. Which means I've got nothing. LOL!

However, I was playing around whilst waiting for paint to dry and ta-da!! A couple of projects going on.

So stage left is some gesso and gel, awhite tag, medium and sweet potato bag mesh. Which is different from onion, potato, avacado mesh. They're great to have laying around.

So I laid out the orange mesh on the tag and slopped a mixture of gesso and gel around it.

I didn't have the presence of mind to photo the above - but below is
a photo of the texture the mixture made. Looks kinda neat although I either needed to use more or less. I'm not experienced enough to know at this point or any point really. I'm doing a lot of guessing.

I broke out some adirondak alcohol inks and mists and some Heidi Swapp mist (which again you'll have to use your imagination because I didn't think to photo the process) because well I was playing around.

I really love the result - now all I have to do is figure out where to go from here.

Suggestions anyone?

This bingo card has been laying about for centuries and felt the need to do something. Again.

So I broke out my tea dye varnish and went at it. Again, I know your imagination is by now running amok. :)
As you can see I didn't do it evenly over the card because when paper and such ages it doesn't do it in an even fashion and I wanted that kind of look for the card.

THEN I had to wait for them to dry. Sigh. lol!

NOW I just need to figure out where to go from here.

AND........
I visited HL tonight and picked up some chipboard and a new packet of paper to use for
the baby album. It'd be soooo much easier if I knew pink or blue LOL.
However, I picked up the 8x8 of the Glitz Color Me Happy
and it has lots of happy happy happy primary colors and fun things
that I think will work well.
AGAIN.......
waiting for paint to dry - I painted the chipboard in colors I pulled
from the line and I'm not being a fraidy cat in
slapping paint around.

I have a glass cutting board and under it I can't resist putting a lot of stuff
like tickets and cards and pamphlets and stuff.
It's distracting I know.
My bad.

enjoy every minute

I love that stamp and have used it often.
Studio Calico of course.
When this photo came over the iphone I swooned.
Its just perfect.
I printed in 3x3 so it wouldn't be too pixilated
and than broke out the deckle scissors
because I remember (and still have some) old B&W
photos that have that kind of edging.
I think its cool and worked perfect in making this photo look dainty.
I tossed it on the background paper it looked perfect.
And it didn't need a lot to showcase it.
Found this big envelope that I had trouble using in the past
(thank goodness) and used it as a mat.
ooooooooo I KNOW.
I wanted to keep things simple so I put a little matching
cluster in the corner and found some
Sassafrass lass that had the perfect colors for the tag
and I actually used up the last of the ribbon in my SC kit.
And then came the title.
Love it.

Remember

I love this stamp and I have used it quite a bit. It was the perfect choice for this heritage photo.

I have to admit - another page put together before having a photo for it.

Love that - like totally.

Actually I had this selection of papers/scraps picked at the same time I was picking out papers for Camera holder. I know you're totally aghast now.

Anyway, love how it turned out. I don't remember the "post card" mfg. but it totally works here. I also copied the back of the photo that has someone's writing on it. Could be my great grandmom's OR my Aunt Toot. (short oh's - not like beeping a horn-LOL).

The photo took me into a FB chat with my cousin who's the last man standing on the Schneider side. He was a font of info that led me back to Ancestry because I had a few things wrong.

I know you're surprised.

I fixed up my boo-boos and while I was chatting, being the magnficent multi-tasker that I am - I continued to work on the page. Which is why the butterfly is covering up some journing because my Cuz couldn't seem to make up his mind who the writing belonged to.

Which is all good.

And while the title bazzil looks pink - its matches the flower when its under the light at my desk. Just wanted to clear that up.

A mix of pattern paper is Daisy D's (base), Cosmo Cricket, Authentique, Sassafrass Lass, Josephine Kimberling is the flowers, Studio Calico ribbon - a change up over twine. Heidi Swapp stamp, prima and kaiser craft pearl.  ooo ooo and I got to use my notebook paper punch.

Even after having the paper picked, I have to determine the "design".  My process sometimes takes minutes, hours and sometimes days or weeks. Very hard to document. Most times, its ripped apart several times and then reinstated to the original design. Or papers change. Then a decision on a photo that can also change by the minute, hour, day.

All of which surprises you, I know.

Way too fast...

I almost fell on the floor when I saw this photo on facebook. I know Cami is growing up fast, but dang, this is way too fast.

I remember her as a little girl and Uncle Tom allowed that she could only cry three times in a day and he would be counting. She would also unafraidedly mix it up with her cousins and show them that girls totally ruled.

Now this is another page that started without a photo. I used some Tim Holtz paper  as a base (I think-the strip was off or nonexistent) and jazzed it up with some grey paint and a crafter's workshop stencil. If you look at the lower left I turned the stencil upside to get the branch - and after I noticed the birds were flying upside down. Must be magic. LOL! An old Swirly doos kit transparency (the last of it I think) and a tag I have no idea what- it was in a transparent envelope. Prima bling, can't place the flower, and thickers. I did fix the T - it slipped upon photographing. I really do like how the stencil turned out. There's also a basic grey rubon that you can't see near the title. PP: authentique, bo bunny, jillybean soup... I did use a honey comb stencil with tan paint under the bird cage stencil and on the other side - it looked stupid. So I covered up. win-win.

Very girly for a tom-boy that became a girly-girl when I wasn't looking. (and she's only 11). Sigh.

Bananas @ U

How adorable is she.
I love bananas.
They are very good for you.
Looks like she loves them too.
Lots of Studio Calico going on here.
A mix from past kits.
Butterfly punch (not SC).
The cork camera and woodchip feathers.
And a stamped tag.
Negatives and positives.

We will be winging our way to NJ for a long weekend.
You guys have a great one.
I hope to have lots of pix and stories to scrap.
I haven't packed yet.
NOTgood.
