Fort Macon and Cape Lookout NC

On walking down the path to the fort there's a sign.
I love this sign.
CAUTION
FORT MACON WAS BUILT FOR WAR
NOT SAFETY
Please use caution.
And seriously it's got some serious cannons going on.
It was established in 1834 and but was undefended during the
American Revelution.

The Confederates held it from 1861-1862

The fort was used as a federal prison from 1865 to 1876.

A temporary battery was set up on the parapet in 1898 for the Spanish-American War.

The Army regained the use of the fort in WWII, and was required to demolish every newly built structure prior to handing it back to the state after the war.

It was also not built for comfort.
It was bare bones.
I can't even imagine.

Nobodies gonna get through that door.
It's like triple layered.

Here's a tease of Cape Lookout Lighthouse because
if I'm gonna be teased so are you.

I'm sweet that way.
Anyway, it's a ferry ride out that we didn't want to make
late afternoon so we'll be back.
I need a bigger lens.

My Florida Traveler's Album is Complete!!!

I decided to post this album in one swoop instead of piecemeal
because it totally looks way cool in one swoop.
This turned out to be my "Florida" album mostly because
the other one I was using was stuffed and
needed to start a new one.
Which was perfect - and since this where we spend 4
consequetive months it needed its own.
Happy at that outcome.

You probably saw the covers at some point because
I did them about a week ago and love
how they turned out.

I have several different pocket pages.
I actually purchased more 6x8 pages to add more
of those instead of the pockets all the time.
A

I try to keep a lot of ephemera because you think remember and you don't.

This album seems to be more of a travelogue and
I'm seriously liking that.

Hanging out on Thanksiving.
Love family.

A clever invitation to a 15 year old party
that sadly, we won't be in the state.

And a wedding that was beautiful
and we had such a great time with family and friends.

Then there's always that one.
LOL.

I add Christmas cards that we receive.

And Christmas lights.
Using some TH Christmas embellies.

I seriously love making my own PL cards and embellishments.
Mostly from die cuts but I'm really getting
into drawing my own.
Not well.
But it's fun all the same.

Lots of journeling when there's no photos and I
love that too because I want to have
those memories too.
Not every moment has to be a kodak one.

I seriously had fun putting this card together
to be used for journaling if you'll
notice that there's no room for journaling.

'
I also keep our favorite resturant menus.
Because.....memory is a fickle thing.

And birthday cards.
That one is a total hoot.
LOL.
And I FINALLY got to use that foot clip.
That hung around a long time.

Also digging using the oxides and inks to make
colorful cards and also for punching and die cutting.

I adore that rainbow card and paired it with a b&w photo.
and on the grey stripes.

More favorite restaraunts and a maps of campgrounds
are great to keep for reference too.
I am putting together the next album which will
be "on the road" stuff - and sometimes
it evolves into 2 - which is awesome as I really
hate when they get too bulky.
