Mixed Media - Bold colors

I also made this page ahead of time and when a former
co-worker and pal of mine who took this picture of me
in our work space many many years ago
1980ish and felt it was perfect with my red dress.
And didn't my dress/outfit SCREAM to go on this page.
Of course it needed some taming so I added
the big envelope - I tried red (as I do have red ones) but
it was too much and the blues didn't match.
Love all the little deets that did tame, the flower bouquet
and the dictionary paper and that doily.
I love doilies.
On the fun side I did journal about my "catch phrase" at work.
This was back in the 80's and one had to catch the phone
by the third ring. I was their secretary, however,
when tied up and unable to answer
I felt it necessary to sing out "get that it could be the phone"
due to their lack of attention lol.
Not really their job unless it was THEIR phone.

Using other mediums in my "watercolor" album

Because of limited space in my area I ditched
a lot of other mediums I had but
thankfully I didn't ditch the gelatoes.
Mind you, I didn't use them much before but they
are small enough to tuck them in somewhere and in
binge watching Missy Whidden (who's u-tube as hacked
and finally restored) uses gelatoes quite liberally
so therefore I had to be a copy cat.
Love the results.
Bold and fun, though if I need them softer, gesso to the rescue.
Back to watercolors here, but I did purchase a new
stencial prior to all the stores closing down and
I love the "fireworks".
AND then I had also kept a small stash of mists.
Mostly Studio Calico Mr. Huey
and THAT was to spray and let run.
AND THEN, I remember stickles from Studio G.
They were really popular back in the day and sort of
went out of vogue but I had some silver and
doesn't it look really cool.
And picked up this cute butterfly stamp in the same
shopping spree and love how they're
watercolored randomly around the page.
They'll be easy if fussy cutting is on the agenda.
This is kind of a stencil fail.
It was too watery and leaked about but I learned
about "pencil" lines and one does not need to be
an artist to slap some pencil marks around.
AND there's always gesso to cover up and get a do-over.
Or just plop a photo there.
AND then, I decided that the cover needed to be jazzed up.
Enter dylusions.
It's loud and psychedelic.
And then the title - I embraced my inner Lisa Fonseca
(check her out on u-tube) she handcuts everything.
From scratch.
Sigh.
She can handcut perfect alphas like nobody's business
without drawing them out first.
I drew out my letters first - and I love how they
work with the wildness.
I do not remember the mfg for the other dodads on there
except for the bird - that is a fussy cut stamp.
I'm likin' the bigger size because the TN is kinda restrictive
so we'll see how this one rolls.

My new 7x9 mixed media album

I JUST KNOW YOU'RE EXCITED!!
I am because it's really fun.

I decided that the pages needed to be gessoed even
though it's deemed a "mixed media" book.
Canson from Hobby Lobby - and it does keep
the pages flat and it does "smear" different.

Tell me you can see a "horse" in this photo
or maybe a "knight"?
as in chess?
And yes it's quite purple.

 Love the colors on this.
I'm quite diggin' the bigger size I am really
getting bored with small sizes.
I'm so used to doing whatever size I please.
I miss that.
This turned out quite monochromatic and soft.
Pretty.
 And then I got bored.
I broke out the dylusions and just went for it.
Mostly just smeared the paint around and
decided that some black dots were needed so
I broke out this huge stamp.
And went to town.
 These colors are fun too.
Just smearing the watercolors all over
using the packaging technique.
And then I broke out the dylusions again.
I found that even "I" as unartistic as I am
can do swirls with a paint brush.
It took FOREVER for the paint to dry.
And it some cases it really wasn't totally dry.
I like it.
And of course nothing is complete without black splatters.

So now I have completely different paints
bright and soft.
While it's cool - it does blow the whole concept of
cohesiveness throughout.
Unless.............

Well I gave in to the matchy matchy

Sort of.
I still have the other TN - see yesterday's post.
I still would like your opinion over there.
This TN started out with Dylusions whitewashing the
chipboard and then again using the splat
TH stencil.
WELL..............
I didn't quite apply the paint correctly through the stencil
SOOOOO...
I had to smear it on purpose because it wasn't a good look
and there was no fixing it
UNLESS
you smoosh it about. So I did.
THEN
I broke out the TN stamps.
(you knew TH would be there somewhere)
Love how the front cover turned out........
and the rings.

Here is front and back together.

And here are the inside covers.
I sort of cloned them.
I have no idea why.
Here is the first page in the notebook - which is an
envelope and a tag with some washi.
I figure I'll work it as I go.
(And I did work them so tune into Monday
and you'll see what I did.
(Quite the tease I am)
ALSO
I didn't put all white papers inside.
I tried to match up the colors on the covers.
Well colors do come in shades.

I am so diggin' the tags, however, changes
can be made and pages rearranged.
That's the beauty of rings.

Here is just a "pre-done" page that'll hopefully
compliment the page next to it.
I'm loving this of course.
I'm loving the other one.
I'm working on getting over my bad self.
😂

Mixed Media - Rock on

Used some water colors in the background, and now I'm
wondering why I didn't use them on the journaling tag page.
Doh! 😑
Anyway I painted some rocks.
I did turn them lose on unsuspecting people at
a campground in Oregon.
It appears I really, really, really need to keep it simple.
I am not a good draw-er.
And it shows.
The grinch is okay and the smiley face (can't mess that up) and
the pink one with the eyelashes isn't bad either,
I have no clue the black with goofy face - your guess and
the other is a mountain, with sky and a sun
I can't decide if they're clouds or snow LOL.
Sigh.
This was the first round and I think I may try a second round
and look to pinterest for some inspiration.
Those are dylusions paints and a matte finish gel to seal.
The rest of the embellies are Pink Paislee.

A bit of mixed media

Going on this page in the album formerly known as
campground, is a photo that didn't print
well because I think the printer was all shook up.
It does ride well - it's in a good spot but it was doing
goofy things.
Is that crab not the cutest?
You'll be seeing in a lot.
So I put the journaling on the tag in the bag
and mostly whined about how I was
gonna use this photo to do something different.
I did nothing different.
So I carried on about it in the journaling.
Sigh.
So the bit of mixed media is some dylusions paints
behind the photo.
Got some layers going on.
And not quite the look I was going for.
LOL!!

Of course I'm last on the bandwagon

Painted rocks.
Passe by now I'm sure.
Sigh.
Anyway it was fun and of course I did the grinch
because I had success with that bad boy on a card.
I also found relatively flat rocks in the last camp we were in.
They were calling my name.

There ya have it.

Mixed Media - Make a wish

This page with the black lines was done for the Monkey Man page.
The monkey was going to dangle on the page
and well it looked..stupid.
I abandoned this page until I came upon this photo
of my brother's birthday party rolling around in my embellishment bin.
I am also using stash from my embellishment/die cut extravaganza and
these primary colored flowers are perfect for the photo.
The photo was actually printed on regular paper because I had
visions of using it in a junk journal.
Since I'm not doing well with the junk journal thing it was perfect
for this page.
Sadly, all I know in this photo is my brother (with the black
suspender look) and I'm the cranky looking one
jealous of the attention he's getting. LOL.
Evidently I'm in trouble because everyone's looking my way.
Love the buttons galore tossed about. I happen to have
a jar in just primary colors.
Shazam.
Love the sequins and those itty bitty red bits.
Adding a bit of color.
And no page is complete without some Tim Holtz words
topping it off.

Mixed Media- artist

I have learned to make paint swirls with a paintbrush
that actually look pretty cool.
Go me.
I did use a polka dot roller for the yellow dots
which worked out perfect I think.
Lots of layers going on with Pink fresh, TH bird and
some stamps that were fussy cut out.
I did breakout the die cut machine because
I wanted to use this font (Vixen) for
the title.
Filled up the entire page and balanced everything on out.
Very fun.

Mixed Media - Play Loud

Love the photo.
So I used my new Tim Holtz stencil and stamp set.
I love the combo.
So also are the paints used - Dylusions.
The numbers are also Tim Holtz rub ons.
So the stencil background seems to be covered up.
Shocking.
The top part of the stencil are holes that look
ripped up and the bottom is honeycomb looking
that is not exactly perfect.
You'd totally love it if you could see it LOL.
The rest of the embellies are Pink Fresh
and a couple of sticko hearts.
Love that I got to use those stamps I love
how they give some dimension and cool background.
Favorite Eldest Son with his mutt Jaxon.
Looks like everyone is having a great time.

Messing around in my mixed media album

I had this photo of me about maybe 4-5 years old
fussy cut out and rolling around in my
embellishment box.
And I had a thought - I have not messed in my mixed
media album in like forever.
Therefore, why not use that goofy fussy cut photo.
With layers. Lots of layers.
And paint.
And a background stamp.
And using those lovely dylusions paints.
So I have this huge background stamp and painted
on 3 different color pains.
I love how it looks and then managed to cover up
the majority of it. LOL.
With layers.
I have a tag way in the back that could be used
for journaling but I couldn't think of any at the moment.
Love how it turned out.

Got rid of lots of stash.
Woohoo!

So that is me circa 1958 - dressed for Easter or Church because
that's how we rolled back in the day.

Mixed media MacMillen RV Park

Texas campgrounds are very bare bones.
And that's okay, we just needed a place to hang for a
few days.
Crazy winds were a-coming and high profile
vehicles were asked to lay low for the next few days.

So we did.
Not a lot of embellishes in this park but
we had a full hook up and I was more than happy with that.

But basically it was a parking lot.
We hunkered down, and I had a lovely visit
with my cousin Patty where we stayed up way late
and caught up on family and exchanged a bunch of
ancestry stuff.
Very fun, and now I have ancestry stuff to keep me busy.

Dylusions, Studio Calico.

Went a bit crazy with the paints.

I'm not sure why because it was awhile ago, but
I know I had a really good reason.
Or maybe I was playing because I was tired of being
boring. LOL.
Anyway, using some Dylusions I added
quite a few colors to an otherwise white page.
I fussy cut out the map and did a lot of stamping as well.
Well isn't it supposed to be messy?
Nailed it!

This turned out to be a favorite camp because it was
so unique. Very fun camping in the sand.
And it wasn't as crazy as I thought it would be.
Sand did not get everywhere.

My thought was I took pix of this camp because it was different
and fun. Why did I not think of adding a photos
to the other camps, hmmm?
It would be helpful in the future when we're looking at
returning to some of the camps we enjoyed
to explore further.

Well DOH. 😮

MM - My heart beats for you

The title is sooooo icky.
Like ooey gooey icky.
As you may, or may not know, I don't do icky.
It's just my way but this photo called for it.
Like totally,
And who doesn't love that fussy cut flamingo that
can help with the ooey gooey icky.
A photo of me and my heartbeat when we
eloped to Vegas.
How could that not be a fun trip.
We honeymooned in the Grand Canyon.
I love the colors of this and used my Tim Holtz
die cut to make those orange thingies on the page
and there is the negative space that is somewhere
in the book as well.
I cut us out and that is sooo cool.
Who knew.
Have that 3D look going on with us popping out of the frame.
The rest just fell together using Dylusion paints
and a fussy cut flamingo, prima flowers and
Studio Calico frames and PL cards.

So we got married in Vegas in 1997, eloping because
we both been around the block a few times and
decided that would be the way to go.
We married at the courthouse because there was no waiting
and I had new shoes so there was no going to the
drive thru chapel.
which did up our targeted wedding date by 2 days.
We were shooting for D-day and missed.
Because there was no waiting.

MM - At the same playdate with my pal

Holli - she had this adorable stamp.
Of course I had to use this adorable stamp.
Using watercolors I painted her adorable self and
I have more just waiting in wings to use.
I broke out my new dylusion paints and had
fun swirling them about the page.
I actually did circles
with a paint brush
that actually look like circles.
Who knew.
So because the little girl inspired me of course I
found photos of my adorable granddaughters to add to the page.

MM - That mushroom stencil

Has gotten around.
I did an Inky Quill thing while I had
that baby out and messy I
plopped it in all 3 books - sometimes a few
times because - mostly because things didn't go well.
LOL
Also played with my new dylusion paints and after
watching Suzanne Rose and her amazing
mushrooms - it just seemed to be the thing to do.
Again, my mushroom looks nothing like her's although
I can say I was extremely pleased how mine
turned out.
Also had a play day at Holli's where she had
that wonderful woman with a hat stamp
and it just totally makes the page.

That is a graduation photo of my mom and I'm
sure I scrapped it before but it just
totally worked out for this page and again,
I cut it out.
Because why not.
I'm liking that.

MM- Mixed Media album

This was sooooo much fun.
I went and purchased some dylusion paint because
for some reason my other collections of paint
went in the yard sale and some were dried up.
Headslapping doh there.
And then I discovered my stencils.
I was trying to do my mushrooms like Susanne Rose.
If you haven't seen her utube stuff - go look.
She rocks.
Well my mushroom doesn't look anything like hers.
At. All.
Her's look soooo real.
But I'm happy with them.
I wasn't quite sure about this but I love
the happy thoughts and it went with my color
scheme and then I found
that photo of favorite eldest son - getting
a teddy bear at his 2 yo birthday party and the
look on his face - just went as well.

And gasp*faint*thud - I cut the photo out.
And doesn't it just rock the page.
