Sightseeing on the New Hampshire side

Roaming around in Portsmouth we turned
to check out Strawberry Banke
and it was a museum of houses back
in the day.
I caught this house as we blew by
We zipped down to Rye Harbor and found some working
boats moored.
And some just hanging out.
If you're a #Wicked Tuna fan we found the Pinwheel,
Tyler's boat moored in the marina.
I usually root for him to win.
Not sure why but I do.
And then lighthouses I previously posted, this is from
the NH side and that is Whaleback lighthouse.
Poser
White Island Light house and if you'll notice
from the other photo here and it was
and optical illusion as Whaleback isn't
on the same piece of land as this lighthouse.
I just liked this.
This is Constitution Lighthouse and I got the house
this time.
Another view with a sailboat posing.
And Whaleback from another view on down the road.
Who doesn't love a lighthouse.

Lighthouses and Ft. McClary Maine

I love lighthouses, who doesn't and I did spare
you 194814851878 pictures of them.
This one in Nubble Lighthouse or otherwise knows as
Cape Neddick lightstation.
It's a really cool are to hang in, lots of places
to sit and relax with artists painting.
The two lighthouses here are White Island Light Station
 and Whaleback Lighthouse.
I strategically managed to get a really cool
sailboat in the photo to be like
all authentic you know.
It appears its an optical illusion, Whaleback is on
the Piscataqua River and has a foghorn,
and
White Island Light Station is on an island in
New Hampshire.
Constitution Lighthouse actually has several names,
Portsmouth, Fort Point, and New Castle.
There's also a Fort Constitution that
we seemed to miss.
We'll have to go back.
oh darn.
Ft. McClary presides over Portsmouth Harbor
providing defense for the
southern coast of Kittery Point.
Obviously that bunker wasn't there in the
1700's.
Was a totally beautiful day.

Two Rockland Lighthouses

First up is the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse
that is WAAAYY out there.
Not like I was daunted by that distance but.....
the jetty was rocky, uneven, and well it just a lot
of work to get out there that I wasn't
in the mood to do.
I know right.
I usually don't have issues with a lot of work
but my fancy footwork doesn't lend
to a lot of unevenness of rocks and crevices.
Anyway, the lighthouse was built in 1890's and its nearly a mile out.
It loooked soooo cool and I was also hoping
to get another angle down the road,
but alas, twas not to be.
And don't the sailboats look like they're having a great time?
My pal Gail enjoying the moment.
Then on to Owl's head Lighthouse and as we turned the
corner in the park there was this adorable post office.
And just was we got there the fog rolled in.
The lighthouse was built in 1825 and rebuilt in 1852.
It's 100 feet above mean sea level.
Even though I hate heights I made it up the
steps just in time for blue skies.
Looking out over the peninsula was fog, there was a ship
passing by and by the time I focused it disappeared into the fog.
This granite rock giving a nutshell of the history
of the lighthouse.
Very hard to read by cool all the same.
An old sea captain haunts the lighthouse.
I didn't see him but that doesn't mean he isn't there.
There was also a dog named Spot, whose job it
was to ring the fog warning bell.
After he passed, he was buried near the bell.

There is also a story of a man, first mate and a fiance
ran aground in the rocks. The lightkeeper
found the captain half frozen, and a couple days
later the captain happened to mention the two other people.
They were eventually found encased in ice and thought to be dead.
Well they slowly thawed them out and the first mate
and fiance had 4 children. The man Roger Elliot did not
make a full recovery.

I'm baack!!! Riding up the Coast

First off, I'm putting it out there I have this "diary" thing
I'm supposed to keep notes in.
I really stink at taking notes - and the "diary" thing
turned into well a diary thing. LOL.
No.helpful.
This is the downside of the bridge between
Oregon and Washington
the Astoria-Megler bridge over the Columbia River.
 The Cape Disappointment lighthouse.
 Yes, its waaaay out there.
As close as I could get.
The have some fun names out there
In addition, Foulweather Bluff, Useless Bay to name a few.
LOL.
 West Port marina
 Love those dramatic skies.
 Gray's Harbor lighthouse.
 Chillin' on the beach.
How cool is that?
We went into the Rainforest in Olympic Park
but because we were in the RV
We could go no further than these falls.
Was a big disappointment but the roads were terrible.
These are Lupin flowers and they are everywhere on
the roadside in Oregon and Washington.
So pretty!!!

Maine lighthouses captured my fancy

Spring Hill Lighthouse
out on the end of a jetty was too adorable
for words.
Also there were a ton of boats that made it perfect.
 And bunkers were everywhere.
Cape Elizabeth was beautiful and had so many
paths upon which to get different angles.
I got them all.
 This stone captured my attention.

See that tiny dot over to the right??
A Brown lighthouse that was out there
and driving me crazy trying to get it.
Ta-da! Finally was able to find a place on the
path close enough that my telephoto would reach.
I'm assuming that this was the original lighthouse.

And more bunkers.
This is Two Lighthouses - one of which is one.
It was hard to get the second one in because with was set back further.
And because this was on private land - it was a close as
one could get.
It has a beautiful cove in which, if you're brave, and
love 72 degree water- you can sunbath.
I like my water about 88.
:D
Also at Two Lights was a Lobster shack in which
we partook in devouring a lobster roll with fixins'.
And it was delish - scenery included.
Fun day with fun friends.
Gail and her brother Joe - showing us the sights.

Couple lighthouse teases on the ferry

Casting off on the Cape Lewes Ferry and wa-la lighthouses. Lighthouses make me swoon.
And the weather was weird. Naturally. This was on the right side.
And below on the left.
Or in nautical terms starboard and port.

And just look at the character and even got a few breaking waves.

And then the right side sky changed. It was a smooth ride and there were some dolphins off the right side but didn't come to play.
However, some seagulls were flying about looking for some lunch.

And there's our RV riding, floating, boating, surfing, wave running, resting and waiting.
