Not necessarily in any particular order....
We did hit Fort Knox because of course you hear so
much about it you have to go look.
It is in a Fort of course, and it is well guarded.
It would've been fun to see the gold
no peeking allowed.
The haunted house looked fun, you don't see too many of them around.
Wonder if there's a ghost shortage.
We camped in Mammoth Cave Park - for you Rv'rs out there
is a Thousand Trail Park.
You pay a membership fee, and you can camp for 1-2 weeks
FREE then you take a couple days off and camp
at another one - there throughout the country - sparse
in some areas - OR you can camp 3 days, go to the next park
camp 3 days, etc. FREE.
They are a mixed bag but most are a really fine place to hang.
Of course, we had to go to National Corvette museum
which was so cool. We made it through the
doors before a guard informed us that it was closed.
Sigh.
Churchill Downs is beautiful and of course closed as well,
but we were able to stroll the grounds somewhat
and it blew my mind because seeing it on TV is soooo different
than real life.
I thought it was like out in the country but it's actually in downtown
Louisville with sketchy surroundings.
And the slugger - America's bat.
I am sure there's a few homeruns in that bat.
Lincoln's birthplace in LaRue County and it
was beautiful of course, and closed.
We walked the grounds and all the way the stairs
to find the doors locked.
A cabin is in the building, and it is a cabin similar to the one
he was born in. After they built the monument,
saved the log cabin, it was determined that it was NOT the
original cabin. (spoiler alert)
This farmhouse and its land were occupied by both
the north and south during the Battle for the Bridge or
the Battle of Munfordville
Beautiful grounds to walk about.
This is the Green River in Mullenburg County and
we had to go see it because Mullenburg County is mentioned
in a John Prine song called Paradise.
Cool Song..
you can check it out here.
