Cape May Ferry and Inlet at Ocean City

 Always a fun ride.
No driving for Tom and it was a beautiful day.
Stayed out on deck instead of hiding inside.

It was almost sunset at the inlet and it was
cool watching the boats go in and out.
Conveniently there's a boardwalk close by.

Another gorgeous sunset as Assateague.

Scenes from the Dauphin Island Ferry

This is our second ferry ride.
We adore ferries.
And this was on a lovely day.
Love pelicans - too bad about window glare :|
I paid for this pose.
This was our swan song with our soon to former RV.
We had great trips in it, but now we're looking for a bit more room.
The lovely part was being able to make a sandwich on the ride
and devour it.
 And oil rigs are everywhere.
They are very cool.
I happened to be on the right side of the boat to get this.
Or should I say starboard.
Fort Gains - was so very cool.
And don't the cannons rock?
Especially from the ferry boat - which was way smaller
than we have normally been on.
And a muddy river, blue skies and white clouds.
The skies change like the wind.
Drives me crazy - with the settings.
I have a book to write these things down in.
Did I do that??
NOOOO.....which I know surprises you.

So far the scrappy part has been non-existent.
It has been a wild ride from Florida to Texas and picking up the new one.
Mostly we've been traveling wildly from KOA to KOA
to get to the dealship on time.
Nothing is easy in dealing with a dealership.
It took all day to get things done and get on the road.
And internet is spotty at most places.
Therefore, we set up camp, eat and by then its bed time.

On the intinery for tomorrow - heading up to BB Kings museum
and then hit the Delta Blues museum.
I'm not sure if its going to be the same day.
Its FUN.

Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia

Was such a disappointment. I expected to be taking a lot of pictures. I expected a lot more picturesque moments. There was like 10% photo op, 90 % driving with lots of pine trees with an amazing amount of ESS and hairpin turns. We spent a lot of time on the trail pushing ourselves to meet schedules when in fact, we should’ve turned back after the first 5 turnouts.

It wasn’t that it wasn’t pretty, it was the fact that it wasn’t things we haven’t seen before in America. We expected to see different.

On the lighter side, we discovered Tim Horton’s which is the Starbucks of our pal Canada. Their coffee is wonderful, their veggie soup is totally hearty and their ginger molasses cookies are to die for. OMG. They had one left on one of our stops and I wasn’t happy that I had to split said cookie - even if it was with my most awesome DH. After that split I found a TH that had a dozen of them - hard to find - and bought them, they’ve been a wonderful pickmeup during our drive.

We even went on down to Dingwall to see the St. Paul’s lighthouse that they had been advertising for miles. When we drove on into Dingwall it became obvious when we came upon the museum and the lighthouse and said lighthouse was moved from somewhere else. AND truly it was not a lighthouse but the top of one. I totally felt duped.

So we flew through the trail in order to get to the ferry in Caribou so we could get to Prince Edward Island in the hopes of seeing something different.

We made it on the ferry just fine. Its so weird driving the rig on there and park next to a semi. We went topside and I almost wet my pants when the horn blew signaling we were leaving the dock.

So I ended up running back and forth from port to starboard (a little nautical lingo there); the marina on the port side with working boats coming and going, and a lighthouse on the starboard side that also had working boats bobbing up and down. (bobbing - another nautical term LOL). And I chose the photo without bobbing boats.

I did eventually go in the “cabin” to warm up and get ready for round two when DH said the sun will be setting.

Soon.

As in 10 minutes. Soon.

Back out I went to get it.

So while one the port side doing a sunset, there was ANOTHER lighthouse on the starboard side getting the glow of the sunset. Knocked a few people over running back and forth.

We are now relaxing at a KOA that my DH driving hubby totally needs. There is great wifi - which is great for you in getting updates.

Not forgotten!

St. John's Ferry to Digby Nova Scota

Made it to St. John’s just about supper time and neither of us was hungry or wanted to go anywhere to eat. We needed to be at the ferry at 11 a.m. the next and I know Tom was wiped from driving. Hunkering down with a granny smith apple and crunchy peanut butter did the trick with some wine. Getting used to carrying my stuff around in a plastic bag through lovely hotel lobbies. Suitcases and RV’s not a good mix.

Got up in time for breakfast and also walked to the bank to get some Canadian currency. It appears to spend like ours so no convertin’ needs to go on, which is good because me and math - not so good. They don’t use pennies or dollar bills either so the change can get a bit on the weighty. And then there are those kilometers. Snort. The van doesn’t have them on the speedometer so we’re trying to use an app to tell us how fast is 100 Km. - would be 52 mph. They don’t go by 5 times table and its not really an exact science - just a lot of guessing on our part as the GPS sometimes converts and sometimes it don’t.  And using Km instead of miles to somewhere is fun. NOT.

Driving the van on the ferry was odd and parking it next to a few semis odder still. Those ferries hold a lot and we were not the only RV on the boat. You can’t remain in your vehicle therefore gathering everything you think you may need.

And of course the weather changed and it got cold - but I was ready this time. I overpacked in the winter department and I’m glad I did. Dressed a tad warmly I roamed around the ferry and took some photos of course. Was hoping to get in on some whales but they weren’t cooperating. Spent most of the time indoors. It was a cold and windy ride.

We disembarked 3 hours later in Digby NS and headed to Camp Haven. We did a few scenic things and grocery shopped. I KNOW. How mundane on vacation but it was worth it as Tom made the most delicious halibut and steaks. Groceries appear to be kind of the same except meat isn’t sold as tenderloin, new york, cubed, etc. its sold up here as grilling steak and stew meat. Everything else appears to be the same. We hunkered down for the evening and I read a book as the wifi sucked and was driving me crazy.

I did however, stroll down to the lake - taking the wrong fork in the road to get a lovely sunset photo. Several actually, but the sun was behind the trees and I caught the glow.
